Woman found shot dead in backyard in broad daylight in North Philly

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A woman was found fatally shot in the neck behind a home on North Front Street Thursday morning, as investigators with the Homicide Unit work to determine what led to the deadly shooting.

Around 9:45 a.m., police responded to a property on the 2500 block of North Front Street in the city’s 26th District, where they discovered an adult female victim in the backyard with a gunshot wound to the right side of her neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of family. No arrests have been made and no weapon was recovered at the scene.

As of now, detectives have not determined a motive and are continuing to interview potential witnesses and review surveillance footage from the area. The shooting occurred in daylight hours in a mixed residential and commercial corridor just north of Center City.

This is one of several active homicide investigations underway across the city this week as gun violence continues to affect neighborhoods across Philadelphia.

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
