High-capacity magazine and narcotics seized in undercover sting

Stamford, CT — An undercover gun sale turned into a dual arrest Wednesday after detectives recovered a stolen firearm and illegal narcotics during a sting operation at the Red Carpet Inn involving a Stamford man and a woman from the area.

The Stamford Police Narcotics & Organized Crime Unit had been investigating 46-year-old Tony Rodriguez, who had agreed to meet undercover officers at the hotel to sell a firearm. Prior to the meeting, Rodriguez sent officers a photo of the weapon, later confirmed to be the same gun recovered at the scene.

As detectives closed in, Rodriguez allegedly attempted to hide a Sig Sauer P226 9mm handgun behind a guardrail near the hotel. Officers located the weapon along with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds.

The gun was later traced back to a 2005 theft of 68 firearms from a federally licensed dealer in Virginia. Its serial number had been deliberately scratched off to hinder tracing, a common method used to avoid detection in firearms trafficking investigations.

Rodriguez admitted to discarding the weapon as officers approached and was arrested at the scene. He now faces multiple weapons-related charges, including:

  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Illegal Transfer of a Firearm
  • Illegal Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine
  • Theft of a Firearm
  • Weapons in a Motor Vehicle

He was held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 10.

Also arrested during the operation was Anaira Eisenlohr, 44, who was found in possession of crack cocaine, fentanyl, and U.S. currency. She was charged with narcotics-related offenses and released on a $10,000 bond, with the same court date.
