Stanton Road murder mystery ends with suspect behind bars
Washington, D.C. – A man accused of fatally shooting a teenager inside a Southeast D.C. apartment last winter has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
It was just days before Christmas when 18-year-old Terrell Oliver was found shot to death inside a residential building on Stanton Road. The call came in at 6:43 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, when Seventh District units arrived to find the teen unconscious and not breathing. He was declared dead at the scene.
More than eight months later, on Friday, Jordan Battle, 24, of Southwest D.C., was taken into custody. MPD confirmed that the U.S. Marshals Service transported him to the Homicide Branch in compliance with a D.C. Superior Court warrant issued after a grand jury indictment. He is now formally charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
Investigators have not released details about the motive or what led up to the shooting, and court documents tied to the case remain sealed. It is also unclear whether Battle and Oliver knew each other prior to the fatal encounter.
The murder unfolded in the 2600 block of Stanton Road, a residential area with a history of violence. The December shooting sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, with residents expressing concern over escalating youth violence at the time.
Jordan Battle remains in custody and is expected to appear before a judge for further proceedings. MPD did not indicate whether additional arrests are expected.
