Philadelphia, PA – A bicyclist was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle that police say was racing another car along Belmont Avenue in the city’s 16th District.
The crash happened around 9:52 a.m. near the 1600 block of Belmont Avenue, investigators said. According to the preliminary investigation, a black Dodge Charger and a black Chrysler were speeding northbound when one of the vehicles struck a cyclist traveling east on Avenue of the Republic.
The impact threw the victim onto the roadway. Medics rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died from his injuries at 10:24 a.m. Police have not yet identified the victim.
While responding to the crash, detectives spotted a black Dodge Charger on the 3200 block of Sedgley Avenue with several men inspecting its front end. Officers secured the vehicle for further investigation.
No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation by the Crash Investigation Division.
