Maryland man busted with arsenal and drugs in basement

Guns and crack cocaine seized in Lothian raid as 64-year-old man arrested

LOTHIAN, MD – A 64-year-old Lothian man was taken into custody Friday morning after detectives uncovered firearms, ammunition, and crack cocaine during a search tied to an ongoing drug investigation in Anne Arundel County.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 29, Southern District detectives, supported by the Quick Response Team and K-9 units, executed a search warrant at a residence in Lothian. The suspect, Daniel Lee Riggs Sr., was found in the basement of the home as the warrant was served.

The search led to the recovery of several weapons and narcotics-related evidence. Among the items seized were:

  • A Remington Sportsman 12-gauge shotgun
  • A .22 caliber Savage bolt-action rifle
  • A stolen .380 caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol
  • A black powder pistol
  • .380 and .22 caliber ammunition
  • Crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia

Investigators confirmed that Riggs was legally prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition at the time of the search. The presence of a reported stolen handgun added to the severity of the charges.

Riggs was arrested at the scene and faces multiple weapons and controlled dangerous substance (CDS) charges. There were no injuries reported during the operation.

The case remains under investigation.
