Baltimore woman wins $50K Pick 5 jackpot using birthday numbers

BALTIMORE, MD – A longtime Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore is $50,000 richer after her Pick 5 ticket, based on her birthday, hit for a straight match in the August 29 midday drawing.

The woman, who described herself as a cat lover and lottery enthusiast, purchased the ticket at the Sunoco station located at 750 East 25th Street in Baltimore. She played her usual numbers — 8-1-6-5-1 — as part of her regular routine with daily draw games.

She discovered her win the following day when she checked her ticket at the same store. When the scanner displayed “Winner!” she confirmed the result again using the Maryland Lottery app. The $1 straight bet returned the game’s top prize: $50,000.

The winner, who has played since the Lottery’s inception, said her biggest prior win had been $500 from scratch-off games. With her brother by her side at Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, she claimed her prize and joked that he was now her “newly hired security.”

She plans to save most of her winnings and use a portion to renovate her home. As for her future with the Lottery, she said she plans to continue playing.

The Sunoco retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
