Police K9 tracks down stolen car suspect after I-95 pursuit in East Lyme

East Lyme, CT – A stolen vehicle pursuit that began in Groton ended on Interstate 95 Wednesday night when Connecticut State Police and a K9 team tracked down the fleeing driver through thick woods.

Authorities said the chase started around 7:40 p.m. after the vehicle rammed police cruisers in Groton. Multiple agencies, including Troop E in Montville, joined the pursuit as the car sped onto I-95 southbound.

The vehicle became disabled near Exit 74, where three occupants bailed out and ran across the northbound lanes of the highway. One suspect was caught immediately by responding officers.

K9 Zedo was deployed from the northbound shoulder and tracked the suspected driver roughly 200 yards, crossing a brook and pushing through dense brush and power line clearings. After Zedo alerted to a hiding spot in thick brush, officers issued warnings. The driver then surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
