Sebring woman jailed after posting violent threats against police on social media

Sebring, FL – A 27-year-old woman is behind bars after authorities say she posted nearly 200 threatening messages and videos online targeting Sebring police officers, including death threats and threats of firebombing the department.

Police said Emily Staten began posting on the evening of Aug. 29, sending a stream of messages through Facebook Messenger over the course of four hours. Many of the posts were violent in nature, including threats to throw Molotov cocktails at the downtown station and claims that she had hidden gas bottles around the building.

Staten also posted a video of herself driving past the Sebring Police Department after issuing the threats, investigators said.

An arrest warrant was secured, and officers took Staten into custody without incident. She is currently being held in the Highlands County Jail.

The department emphasized that while it supports the First Amendment, threats of violence will always prompt swift action. “Threats to kill or do harm will not be tolerated,” officials said.
