Second man charged with felony murder in DC apartment shooting

Second suspect arrested in fatal 21st Street shooting

Washington, DC – Police have made a second arrest in connection with the killing of a 61-year-old man inside a Northeast apartment earlier this year.

On May 2 at about 12:48 p.m., officers from the Fifth District responded to the 600 block of 21st Street NE for reports of a shooting. Inside an apartment, officers found Steven Stewart, 61, of Northeast, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and EMS.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced that 42-year-old Randall Mack of Northeast was arrested on Tuesday, September 2, by the U.S. Marshals Service. He has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed (Felony Murder) under a D.C. Superior Court Grand Jury indictment.

A previous arrest in the case took place on August 22, when 62-year-old Phillip Palmer of Northeast was taken into custody by Sixth District officers and homicide detectives. Palmer was also indicted on a charge of First Degree Murder While Armed (Felony Murder).

Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.
