Suspect arrested after gunfire followed traffic crash in Southeast DC

Washington, DC – Police have arrested a 44-year-old man accused of opening fire after a minor car accident in Southeast last month, the Metropolitan Police Department announced.

The incident happened Thursday, August 21, around 8:08 a.m. in the 1600 block of 23rd Street SE. Officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire and found evidence of a shooting but no victim at the scene.

An investigation determined that the shooting stemmed from a traffic collision between the suspect and the victim. After the crash, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots toward the victim. No injuries were reported.

On September 4, detectives arrested Earl Harris of Southeast DC pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant. He has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill.
