GAITHERSBURG, Md. – A Montgomery County woman who has played the lottery for 30 years finally landed a top prize this week, taking home $77,000 from a scratch-off ticket.

The longtime player visited Maryland Lottery headquarters Thursday with her daughter to claim the win from the $10 Lucky 7s Multiplier game. She purchased the ticket at Brighton Beer & Wine on Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, a retailer she has frequented for years.

She said she was drawn to the game’s “bright, bold colors,” but noted she regularly plays all Lottery games. After scratching the ticket at home, she was so stunned by the result that she asked her daughter to verify the prize through the Maryland Lottery app.

Her reaction was immediate. “I began to cry,” she said. “I’ve been playing all these years and I’ve never won a top prize. I felt so happy and thankful.”

The winner, who asked not to be named, plans to pay off her home and save the remainder for her family’s future. Still, she hinted that her lottery journey isn’t over, setting her sights on the record $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot in the next drawing.

Brighton Beer & Wine, which sold the winning ticket, will also collect a $777.77 bonus from the Lottery for its role in the win.
