Inmate charged with murder in death at Eastern Correctional Institution
Somerset County, MD – Maryland State Police have charged an inmate at the Eastern Correctional Institution with murder in connection with the death of another prisoner earlier this year.
On March 29, investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the prison after 28-year-old Shane Lanham was discovered unresponsive on the floor of a cell.
Following months of investigation, police presented the case to a Somerset County Grand Jury. On September 3, 26-year-old inmate Tyjuan Chapple was formally served with an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree murder and related offenses.
Chapple remains in the custody of the Maryland Division of Corrections as court proceedings move forward.
