JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found shot to death in the roadway of a Jackson Township apartment complex Saturday morning, prosecutors said.
Police responded around 11 a.m. to a 911 call reporting gunfire and an unresponsive woman at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers found 28-year-old Toraya Reid lying near the exit of the complex with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Naz Reid, is a professional basketball player from Asbury Park, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Toraya was his sister. He was the 2024 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.
Additional responding officers spotted a man running on North New Prospect Road, later identified as Shaquille Green, authorities said. Green was taken into custody without incident and brought to Jackson Township Police Headquarters.
Investigators determined that Green, who was in a dating relationship with Reid, was responsible for the shooting. He has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Green is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer praised the swift work of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the county medical examiner for their coordinated efforts that led to Green’s arrest.
