GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A fast-moving fire tore through a garage in the Glendora neighborhood Thursday evening, forcing residents from their home but leaving the main structure standing, police said.
The blaze broke out around 6:43 p.m. on the 900 block of San Jose Drive, where officers arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from an attached garage. All residents made it out safely before firefighters arrived.
Crews from Glendora, Blackwood, Magnolia, Runnemede, Somerdale and Bellmawr Fire Departments worked together to bring the fire under control, stopping it from spreading into the rest of the home. Inspira Basic Life Support also assisted on scene.
No injuries were reported, but smoke damage rendered the residence temporarily unlivable. The displaced residents are being assisted while the Gloucester Township Police Department and Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office investigate the cause.
Officials urged the public to ensure smoke alarms and fire suppression systems are in working order, noting that early warnings are critical in escaping safely.
