Lexington, NC – A Davidson County man is facing felony charges after investigators say he married three women in different counties without ever divorcing.

Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division said they launched a probe in April after receiving a report of suspected bigamy. The investigation revealed that Harry Irvine Burdick Jr. allegedly obtained marriage licenses with three women in Lincoln, Davidson, and Guilford counties.

Officials said detectives were unable to locate divorce records before the additional marriages took place. Burdick, 73, was arrested on Friday, August 22, and charged with two counts of felony bigamy. Investigators believe financial gain and personal benefit motivated the alleged scheme.
