BALTIMORE — A Baltimore Police helicopter crew made an emergency landing Saturday night to perform CPR on a drowning victim at an elementary school pool, officials said.

At around 8:41 p.m., officers responded to a water rescue call at Walter P. Carter Elementary School, where an unidentified 25-year-old man was pulled from the pool by bystanders attempting to revive him.

The BPD Aviation Unit, known as Foxtrot, was patrolling nearby and responded to the scene. Observing the critical nature of the situation from the air, Flight Officer Hoover and Tactical Flight Officer Smith landed the helicopter on the rear grounds of the school.

Flight Officer Smith immediately exited and began performing CPR on the man until medics arrived and took over care. The victim was revived and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“Sensing the urgency and knowing the immediate need for life-saving measures, Foxtrot Flight Officer Hoover and Tactical Flight Officer Smith made the decision to land in the rear of the school,” the department said.

The man’s current condition was not released, and his identity has not been confirmed.
