Powerball player scores $50K win with ticket sold in Newburgh
Newburgh, NY — A Powerball ticket worth $50,000 was sold at a Newburgh smoke shop for the Friday night drawing, delivering a third-prize win to one lucky player in Orange County.
The winning ticket was purchased at Smokes 4 Less, located at 59 North Plank Road, and matched four white balls and the red Powerball — the combination required to win the game’s third-tier prize. The win came from the January 5 Powerball drawing.
Powerball numbers are drawn from a field of one through 69, with the red Powerball selected from a separate field of one through 26. The game holds drawings three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
Winners have up to one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. Prizes exceeding $5,000 are subject to federal and state tax withholdings. The New York Lottery recommends signing the back of the ticket immediately and contacting Lottery officials for instructions on how to claim.
The New York Lottery remains the most profitable lottery in North America, generating over $3.6 billion for public education in the state in fiscal year 2024–2025.
