64-year-old woman fatally shot in southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 64-year-old woman was shot and killed early Thursday morning in southwest Philadelphia, police said.

At 2:47 a.m., officers from the 12th District heard gunfire before responding to a radio call for “Gunshots / Person with a gun / Female down on the highway” at 5200 Greenway Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying unresponsive in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds to her back. She was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and the motive remains unknown. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

Police are investigating the fatal shooting, which marks another act of gun violence in the city’s ongoing crime crisis.
