MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A 75-year-old motorcyclist suffered a serious head injury Sunday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash in Monroe Township, and police are asking drivers and nearby residents to check for video that could help identify the vehicle involved.

The crash happened around 4:35 p.m. on Union Valley Half Acre Road near North Pondview Boulevard. Officers responding to a report of a motorcyclist down in the roadway found a Honda motorcycle in the southbound lane, according to Monroe Township Police.

What happened

  • The injured motorcyclist is a 75-year-old Monroe Township resident.
  • Police believe the other vehicle may have been a white SUV that turned left in front of the motorcycle.
  • Investigators are looking for witnesses as well as surveillance and dash-camera footage from the area.

Police Say Vehicle Turned in Front of Motorcycle

The department’s preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle had been heading north on Union Valley Half Acre Road toward North Pondview Boulevard.

At the same time, the other vehicle was traveling south. Police said the vehicle, described only as possibly a white SUV, made a left turn onto North Pondview Boulevard in front of the approaching motorcycle.

The two collided.

“Following the crash, the vehicle left the scene,” the Monroe Township Police Department said.

Police have not released a license plate, make or model for the vehicle. No information identifying the driver was provided.

Motorcyclist Taken to New Brunswick Hospital

The 75-year-old rider suffered what police described as a serious head injury.

Monroe Township EMS transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, with hospital paramedics aboard the ambulance.

Police did not provide an update on his condition beyond describing the injury as serious.

The Monroe Township Police Department Traffic Safety Division is now trying to find people who were near the intersection around the time of the crash.

Investigators want to hear from anyone who saw the collision itself or noticed anything immediately before or afterward. They are also asking residents and motorists to check surveillance systems, doorbell cameras and dash cameras that may have recorded the vehicle.
