94-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Hughesville Home Fire, Investigation Ongoing

HUGHESVILLE, MD — Authorities are investigating a deadly fire that claimed the life of a 94-year-old woman at her home in Hughesville on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency responders from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and EMS were dispatched around 3:00 p.m. to a residence on Driftwood Place after a friend reported being unable to contact the homeowner for several days.

Upon entering the home, responders discovered the woman deceased, with visible burn injuries.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office have launched a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the woman’s identity has not been released pending family notification.
