Schenectady Police Apprehend Suspect Following Shots Fired

SCHENECTADY, NY—The Schenectady Police Department swiftly responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 Block of Albany Street on Saturday, July 28th, 2024, at approximately 9:27 PM. Officers on patrol witnessed a man, later identified as 19-year-old Malachi Grier of Schenectady, running with a handgun and apprehended him following a short foot chase.

The scene was processed by the Schenectady Police Detective Division and Crime Scene Unit, where several shell casings were found. Grier has been detained at the Schenectady County Jail, facing multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Obstructing Governmental Administration.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident, but the investigation remains ongoing as local authorities work to determine the full scope of the event.
