OREGON, OH — Michael from Oregon, Ohio, trusted his instincts and ended up with a $50,000 win on the Ohio Lottery’s Billion scratch-off. Stopping at Oregon Friendship #79 on Navarre Ave on his way to work, he initially bought a ticket that didn’t hit. But a feeling of luck led him back to the counter for one more try.

The second ticket was a game-changer. “It said $100 x 500, and I went to the cashier, and I said, ‘is this $5,000?’” Michael recalled. When the cashier scanned the ticket, it confirmed his total prize was actually $50,000. “It was crazy,” he said.

After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings totaling 28%, Michael will take home approximately $36,000. This isn’t his first big win—he won $1 million playing Powerball about a year ago.

Michael plans to invest his latest winnings. The Billion scratch-off is a $50 ticket with a top prize of $1 million a year for 20 years; as of November 5, three top prizes remain.
