BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been indicted on second-degree murder and other charges for allegedly shooting a 17-year-old boy to death last month in the Mott Haven neighborhood, District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Friday.
James Walker, 34, of Oak Terrace, is accused of firing ten shots at Xavier Navarez on November 9, 2024, striking the teenager three times in the torso and leg. Navarez was transported to New York Health + Hospitals Lincoln, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“This act was reckless and senseless,” District Attorney Clark said, describing the incident outside Walker’s residence at 609 Oak Terrace. Walker and the victim were reportedly acquainted, but the motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.
Walker surrendered to NYPD detectives at his apartment shortly after the shooting. A 9mm pistol believed to have been used in the incident was recovered in a bag behind the building.
Walker has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Brenda Rivera and is being held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 26, 2025.
