BALTIMORE — Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced Tuesday that no charges will be filed against officers involved in a fatal police pursuit that ended in a crash in Harwood, Anne Arundel County, on May 13, 2024.
The incident began around 5:35 a.m. when a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle suspected in a series of break-ins in Huntingtown. The driver failed to pull over, leading deputies on a 25-mile pursuit into Anne Arundel County. The fleeing vehicle ultimately collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Birdsville Road and Solomons Island Road.
Three people occupied the fleeing vehicle. The driver and rear-seat passenger were hospitalized and later released, while the front-seat passenger, a juvenile, was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The pickup truck driver was also treated and released.
The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Attorney General’s Office reviewed the case and concluded on February 6, 2025, that no officers had committed a crime under Maryland law. Due to juvenile privacy laws, the deceased victim’s name has not been disclosed.
Authorities have closed the investigation, determining that law enforcement officers involved acted within legal bounds.
