NEWARK, NJ — Police are searching for a Newark man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that left one person injured on April 19, according to the city’s Department of Public Safety.
Authorities say Rodney R. Oneal, of Newark, is being sought after a man was shot seven times on the 400 block of Chancellor Avenue shortly before 9:30 p.m. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found three shell casings and a trail of blood leading toward Schley Street.

Police link vehicle at hospital to wanted man
Investigators learned the victim had been transported to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in a grey 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, bearing New Jersey plates B64VNT. The vehicle is registered to Oneal, described as 6-foot-1 and approximately 230 pounds.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and one wrist and was treated upon arrival. No information has been released on the individual’s current condition.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone with knowledge of Oneal’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. Authorities emphasize that all tips are anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
