NEW YORK — A man was stabbed in the leg multiple times in an unprovoked attack Wednesday afternoon in Washington Heights, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. on April 16 near West 162nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue. According to police, a 33-year-old man was seated at the intersection when an unidentified individual approached without speaking and attacked him.
The suspect displayed a sharp object and stabbed the victim several times in the leg before fleeing southbound on Amsterdam Avenue. The motive for the assault remains unclear.
EMS transported the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
Suspect fled on foot and remains at large
The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, and tan shoes.
The NYPD has not confirmed whether surveillance footage is available or if the suspect and victim had any prior interaction.
The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
