Erie, PA — A man died Wednesday night after being shot by Pennsylvania State Parole agents during an investigation in the area of East 27th and Parade Street, Erie police announced Thursday.
At about 9:44 p.m., parole agents reported they had fired on a subject who then fled westbound in a white car along East 27th Street. Erie officers responding to the call saw the suspect’s vehicle near East 27th and German Street, with the driver slumped over the wheel and the car still moving.
Officers positioned their patrol vehicle to block the car from entering the intersection and approached tactically. They found the driver unresponsive, removed him from the car, and began first aid until EmergyCare medics arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials confirmed the State Parole Agent involved was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries, though details on how those injuries occurred were not immediately released.
The Erie Police Department said it was not involved in the initial shooting, and that the investigation has been turned over to Pennsylvania State Police and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office under standard protocol.
