Baltimore man calling himself ‘Mr. Lion Grass’ claims $1,000,004 Powerball prize
Pikesville, MD – A Baltimore man who goes by the name “Mr. Lion Grass” is celebrating a $1,000,004 Powerball win after purchasing a ticket at a gas station in Pikesville for the September 3 drawing.
The winner, who prefers to remain anonymous under the alias, matched all five white balls on one of his ticket combinations to land the $1 million second-tier prize. An additional $4 came from a separate line on the ticket that matched the red Powerball number alone, bringing the total prize to $1,000,004.
Although he normally buys his lottery tickets at a Sunoco near his home, a change in routine led him to the Slade BP gas station at 524 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, where he ended up purchasing the lucky ticket.
Mr. Lion Grass typically plays Quick Pick, but this time he used numbers based on the birthdates and ages of friends and family, after taking advice from another lottery player. He purchased the ticket on September 2 and waited six days to check the results. On September 8, prompted by his wife, he scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app and at first believed he had won $100,000. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was actually worth more than $1 million.
He officially claimed the prize on September 15. A disability counselor by profession, he told lottery officials that the win won’t change his daily life. He and his wife plan to invest the money and may take a vacation.
As the selling retailer, Slade BP will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
