Utica, NY – A 20-year-old Utica man has been indicted on murder charges in connection with the July 4 shooting death of Rogereale Howard, police announced Thursday.
An Oneida County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Sept. 18 charging Jarian Loveday with second-degree murder. Later that day, members of the NY/NJ US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Loveday.
Investigators determined that Loveday fired the weapon that killed Howard near the intersection of James Street and Howard Avenue, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police thanked the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office for its role in the investigation and said further details about the case will be released as court proceedings continue.
Howard’s death sparked an ongoing homicide investigation this summer. Authorities did not release additional information about a possible motive or other suspects.
