Groton, CT – General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. has secured a $642.3 million contract modification to continue design and support work for the Navy’s Virginia class submarine program, the Pentagon announced.
Contract work spread across four states
The cost-plus-fixed-fee modification, tied to a previously awarded agreement, covers Lead Yard Support and design studies for the fast-attack submarine fleet. Most of the work will be performed at Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard (94%), with smaller portions assigned to facilities in McLeansville, NC (3%); Newport News, VA (2%); and Newport and Quonset, RI (1%). The project is expected to be completed by April 2026.
Funding breakdown across fiscal years
The award will draw on multiple funding streams: $41.5 million from fiscal 2021 Navy shipbuilding funds, $31.2 million from fiscal 2024 allocations, $21.9 million from fiscal 2025 research and development, $15.2 million from fiscal 2023 shipbuilding funds, $6.1 million from fiscal 2022 shipbuilding funds, and $4.5 million from fiscal 2025 shipbuilding. None of the obligated funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is overseeing the contract.
