Gunman taken down minutes after armed robbery in DC’s Northwest
WASHINGTON, DC – Chaos erupted on W Street Friday night when a man pulled a gun, assaulted multiple victims, and fled with stolen property—only to be caught shortly after with the weapon and loot still on him.
Just after 8:15 p.m., the violent robbery unfolded in the 200 block of W Street NW. Witnesses reported that the suspect flashed a firearm, physically attacked the victims, and demanded valuables. The victims complied, and the suspect fled on foot.
Not long after the attack, officers were alerted to an unrelated arrest involving a man found with a firearm. Upon closer inspection, they discovered he was also in possession of items that matched those reported stolen during the robbery just minutes earlier.
Following further investigation, 20-year-old Jalen Shelton of Northwest DC was identified as the suspect and arrested. He has been charged with Armed Robbery (Gun).
The case remains open as investigators continue to gather evidence. A reward of up to $10,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals involved in violent crimes in the District.
