HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – The Borough Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Hightstown Engine Company No. 1 Fire House, where members will review a packed agenda that includes a proposed one-way street ordinance, employee health plan incentives, and several key contract awards for water treatment supplies.
Mayor Susan Bluth will call the session to order, followed by public comment, where residents will have up to three minutes each to speak.
The meeting will feature the introduction of Ordinance 2025-18, amending the borough’s traffic code to update one-way street designations.
Key Points
- Council to vote on Ordinance 2025-18 adjusting one-way street rules in Hightstown.
- Resolutions include new chemical supply contracts for water treatment operations.
- Employees may receive incentives for switching to cost-saving health insurance plans in 2026.
Traffic ordinance tops legislative agenda
The council will consider Ordinance 2025-18, which proposes amendments to Chapter 7 of the borough’s code governing traffic and one-way street designations. The change aims to improve roadway flow and safety in select areas, though specific streets have not yet been publicly detailed.
Employee health plan incentives under review
Resolution 2025-215 would authorize financial incentives for borough employees who opt into one of three health insurance options under the New Jersey State Health Benefits Program for calendar year 2026: the Omnia Plan, a High-Deductible Low Plan, or a High-Deductible High Plan. Officials say the measure is designed to help control long-term healthcare costs while providing more flexibility for employees.
Water treatment contracts up for approval
A series of resolutions from 2025-216 through 2025-223 would award contracts to several suppliers for essential water treatment chemicals, including chlorine, aluminum sulfate, hydrated lime, and magnesium hydroxide. The proposed vendors include George S. Coyne Chemical Co., USALCO LLC, SNF Polydyne Inc., and Premier Magnesia LLC. These contracts are part of the borough’s annual procurement process for maintaining local water quality standards.
Administrative items round out consent agenda
The consent portion of the meeting includes appointments of a Risk Management Consultant and a Fund Commissioner, along with approval of a resolution to cancel outstanding checks and accept the donation of a community AED device and enclosure from the Aliver Foundation.
The meeting will conclude with the payment of bills and authorization for the Finance Department to process routine payments ahead of the December 1 session.
