DAMASCUS, VA – On Tuesday, Khamani Imes, a 19-year-old resident of Damascus, was arrested on charges related to a Father’s Day homicide.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes, Imes is suspected of providing the firearm used in the murder of 33-year-old James Joel Austin.

Imes was apprehended at his home on Bethesda Church Road, following the execution of a search warrant by the department’s SWAT Unit. The weapon alleged to have been used in the homicide was found during the search.

Imes now faces charges of underage possession of a firearm, first-degree murder, and conspiracy. He has been transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. Isaiah Brown-Hawkins, the 16-year-old suspected shooter, remains at large.

The homicide occurred on Sunday, June 18, when Brown-Hawkins allegedly shot Austin and fled in the victim’s Honda. The vehicle was later found in Washington, DC, but Brown-Hawkins was not with it. Investigation into the case continues.
