Queens Expands Program to Combat Repeat Shoplifting

by Leo Canega

QUEENS, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, in collaboration with the NYPD, announced the expansion of the Merchants Business Improvement Program.

Initially piloted in Jamaica, Flushing, and Astoria, the program aims to combat repeat shoplifting and disruptions caused by a few individuals.

Feedback from the pilot programs has been overwhelmingly positive.

Participating businesses can contact the police when disruptive or illegal behavior occurs in their establishments.

Officers can then issue a trespass notice, warning individuals that returning could lead to arrest. The program will now be available in every precinct in Queens.
