Juvenile Arrested in Utica for Possession of Handgun

UTICA, NY – Utica Police units were dispatched to the plaza on the 1500 block of Genesee St on Wednesday, around 10:45 p.m., following reports of several males in possession of handguns.

Upon arrival, the suspects dispersed, and a 17-year-old male was pursued and apprehended.

Officers found a discarded .380 handgun along the suspect’s route, confirmed by thermal imaging. The juvenile had previously been arrested for possession of another handgun earlier this year.

The juvenile was charged by the Juvenile Aid Unit with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

He was transported to the Utica Police Department for further processing.
