Burning Man attracts tourists from all over the country, especially from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. If your friends and loved ones from the tri-state area are at the festival, it’s not quite as you might have imagined it in the past.
Heavy rainfall at the Burning Man festival has forced tens of thousands of attendees to shelter in place and conserve resources. Event organizers and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced the closure of access to and from Black Rock City for the remainder of the event.
The rain over the last 24 hours created hazardous conditions, halting all vehicle movement on the playa. More rain is expected in the coming days, making it unlikely for conditions to improve for vehicles to enter or exit the site.
Paul Reder, one of the festival-goers, reported that thick mud surrounded his RV as patches of blue sky struggled to emerge from the gray clouds. Reder mentioned that the community within his large camp is sharing resources to cope with the situation.
Organizers have advised attendees to remain cautious and to conserve food and water while waiting for conditions to improve.
