JACKSONVILLE, FL – Marcus Pratt, a 38-year-old resident of Crestview, Florida, has been charged with six federal offenses relating to threatening communications and retaliation against a federal judge. The charges, announced by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg, could lead to Pratt facing up to 10 years in federal prison for each count. The grand jury’s indictment also includes a notice of intention by the United States to seize assets linked to the proceeds of the alleged crimes.
The indictment details that Pratt dispatched three handwritten threats via the U.S. Postal Service, targeting a United States District Judge in Miami. These letters, sent on August 2, September 23, and October 10, contained threats of lethal violence against the judge and others, motivated by Pratt’s desire to retaliate for the judge’s official actions. Each letter explicitly threatened the life of the judge, underscoring the severity of Pratt’s alleged offenses.
