Man arrested after shooting air pistol from apartment window injures two and damages cars in Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA – A 23-year-old man was taken into custody early Thursday morning after allegedly firing an air pistol from his apartment window, striking two people and damaging multiple vehicles in Arlington County.

The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on the 1200 block of S Courthouse Road, where police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two men who had been hit by projectiles. Both sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Three parked cars were also struck and damaged by the projectiles.

Officers at the scene traced the shots to a nearby apartment unit. After entering the apartment and executing a search warrant, police recovered an air pistol, CO2 cartridges, and additional projectiles. The suspect, Donis Manuel Chan Ajtum, was arrested inside the apartment.

Investigators also found that Ajtum was in possession of fraudulent identification.

Ajtum has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm, two counts of assault and battery, two counts of shooting a missile at occupied vehicles, three counts of destruction of property, possession of fake identification, and fraudulent use of identification. He is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

The investigation remains active. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Arlington County Police Department.
