NEW YORK, N.Y. – An 87-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday while entering her building in the West Village, police said.
The holdup happened just after midnight near West 4th Street and Jane Street.
Investigators said the victim was approached from behind by an unidentified man who pulled a gun and demanded her purse.

Victim threatened and robbed at gunpoint
According to police, the woman was unlocking the door to her residential building when the man confronted her from behind, displayed a firearm, and threatened her. The victim handed over her purse, complying with his demands, before the suspect fled east on Jane Street.
Officers responding to the scene canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect. The victim was not physically harmed and declined medical attention, police said.
Suspect remains unidentified
The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a black hat, black sweatshirt, brown jacket, black pants, and gray, white, and black sneakers.
Police ask for public’s help
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and businesses in an effort to identify the individual. Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
