Armed suspect killed after confrontation with federal agents in Minneapolis DHS says crowd clashed with officers after shooting

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A man was shot and killed early in the morning after confronting federal agents with a handgun during a Homeland Security operation in Minneapolis, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Officials said the incident began around 9:05 a.m. Central Time, when law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation to locate an individual wanted for violent assault.

During the operation, an unidentified man reportedly approached U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun. Agents attempted to disarm him, but the suspect resisted violently, prompting one officer to fire defensive shots, according to Homeland Security. Medics on scene provided immediate treatment, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials said the suspect carried two magazines and had no identification.

Shortly after the shooting, approximately 200 people gathered in the area, and DHS reported that several individuals began assaulting officers and obstructing operations. Agents deployed crowd-control measures to restore order and ensure public and officer safety.
