BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore husband and wife walked into Maryland Lottery headquarters this week with matching smiles and a shared story of luck, claiming a $50,000 Pick 5 prize from the Jan. 8 drawing. The couple, longtime fans of Maryland Lottery’s daily number games, said their win was a team effort — and, in true marital fashion, a joint victory.
“She’s the one who won,” the wife said as she collected the check. Her husband quickly replied, “Since we’re married, I just gave it to her.” Without missing a beat, she added, “It all comes to me anyway.”
The pair has a history of playing Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5 together and had previously claimed smaller prizes using the same number combination that earned them their biggest win yet.
The winning ticket, purchased at Redner’s Wholesale Market on Eastern Avenue in Baltimore, brought the store a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the lucky ticket.
As for their plans, the husband said the winnings will go toward fixing up their house and paying off some minor bills — with a celebratory lunch on the way home. Despite the life-changing odds, the couple said the game’s moderate stakes keep them playing for fun.
“It’s not going to change your life, but it’ll help you out,” the husband said, holding a few more Pick 5 tickets for future drawings. “I’m hopeful we’ll see you again soon.”
