BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred more than a year ago in the city’s Western District.
Detectives say 38-year-old Tirrell Evans has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 42-year-old Richard Evans.
Investigators linked Evans to the fatal shooting that took place in the 1300 block of North Calhoun Street on September 11, 2024.
Authorities confirmed that Evans was taken into custody on November 11 and is currently being held without bail.
Arrest follows yearlong homicide probe
Police reports show that the case began when officers responded to a shooting just after 10:28 p.m. on North Calhoun Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Detectives continued investigating the case for more than a year before identifying Evans as the primary suspect.
Court documents list multiple charges against Evans, including first-degree murder and weapons-related offenses.
Baltimore Police said the arrest represents ongoing efforts to close unsolved homicide cases across the city.
Community urged to assist with unsolved cases
Investigators are still encouraging anyone with information about other open shootings in the Western District to come forward.
Community members can contact homicide detectives directly at 410-396-2477 or call Metro Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Police said community cooperation remains essential to solving long-term cases that rely on witness accounts and forensic review.
The case will be forwarded to the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Evans is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in the coming weeks.
