Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder in fatal shooting

BALTIMORE, MD — A 42-year-old Baltimore man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in the city’s Southwest District, police announced.

Tracy Jeter was arrested and charged in the killing of 29-year-old Travon Benson, who was fatally shot on Dec. 14 in the 200 block of North Payson Street. Jeter was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and is being held without bail.

The incident was initially reported around 8:11 p.m. on Dec. 14, when officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Benson suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and subsequently identified Jeter as the suspect in the case.

Baltimore police said the investigation remains ongoing.
