Barricade near Forrest Avenue shuts down streets for hours

DOVER, DE – A barricade situation near Forrest Avenue and Stoney Drive came to an end Wednesday after a 61-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment of self-inflicted wounds, police said.

The Dover Police Department confirmed the incident concluded with the man safely apprehended following a prolonged police response that disrupted traffic and nearby neighborhoods.

Authorities said the 61-year-old male was transported to an area hospital, where he is being treated for injuries described as self-inflicted. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the barricade have not yet been released.

The situation prompted road closures and transportation disruptions in the surrounding area. Dover High School was opened to temporarily house displaced residents during the incident.

Police acknowledged assistance from the Capital School District, the Delaware Department of Transportation for traffic control, the Delaware State Police, the City of Dover Electric Department and local paramedics and EMTs who provided medical care at the scene.
