STAMFORD, CT – A tense standoff on Oaklawn Avenue ended Tuesday after a barricaded suspect exchanged gunfire with Stamford police officers and was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said the incident began when officers responded to a residence on Oaklawn Avenue during the day and immediately came under fire as they approached.

Multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the neighborhood, providing tactical and investigative support as the standoff unfolded.

Authorities confirmed that during the exchange, the suspect continued firing at officers before turning the weapon on himself.

No Stamford officers were reported injured in the exchange of gunfire.

State police handling investigation

The Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit is processing the scene, and the Office of the Inspector General will release additional details as the investigation continues.

Residents in the area were temporarily evacuated or asked to shelter in place during the response, which lasted several hours before police declared the situation contained.
