BENSALEM, Pa. – A Philadelphia man barred from owning firearms was arrested Thursday night after shots were fired in the parking lot of the Knights Inn Motel on Route 1, police said.
Officers responded around 9:11 p.m. after a driver reported that an unknown object shattered the rear window of his vehicle as he passed through the lot. Another witness told police he saw a black male fire two rounds from a handgun while standing outside.
Investigators traced the gunman to room 185, which was registered to Steven Kilcrest, 38, of Knorr Street, Philadelphia. As officers secured the area, Kilcrest exited the room unarmed and was taken into custody without incident. A search of the room turned up a .40-caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun loaded with one round in the chamber and five in the magazine. Two spent shell casings were also recovered from the scene.
Police confirmed Kilcrest was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior convictions. He was charged with aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief.
Kilcrest was arraigned before District Justice Brian Marriott and sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $500,000 bail.
Police say the quick response prevented further danger at the busy Route 1 motel.
