Bergen County police officers raise money for cancer through Borough of Beards

Fifteen Bergen County towns recently came together for a heartwarming cause, as police officers from these towns grew beards for a fundraising campaign. The annual “Borough of Beards” initiative was established to raise funds for individuals and families affected by cancer. The campaign was a resounding success, with over $71,000 being donated to two charities- Rare is Beautiful, which supports those with Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, and The Lilabean Foundation, which focuses on pediatric brain cancer.

The Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department and other participating agencies are being lauded for their selfless and dedicated efforts towards this crucial cause. The participating towns included Ho-Ho-Kus, Upper Saddle River, Waldwick, Wyckoff, Saddle River, Franklin Lakes, Woodcliff Lake, Ridgewood, Oakland, Midland Park, Montvale, Ramsey, Mahwah, Elmwood Park, and Garfield.

The “Borough of Beards” campaign was launched to promote awareness and support for cancer patients and their families. The officers from these towns decided to grow beards as a symbol of their solidarity and commitment to the cause. The initiative was met with a warm response from the community, and many people stepped forward to donate generously to the cause.

Rare is Beautiful and The Lilabean Foundation are two charities that work tirelessly towards supporting cancer patients and their families. Rare is Beautiful is dedicated to providing financial and emotional support to those suffering from Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that increases the risk of cancer. The Lilabean Foundation focuses on pediatric brain cancer, supporting families with medical expenses, and funding research to find a cure.

The success of the “Borough of Beards” campaign is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting cancer patients and their families during their time of need.
