Bowie man arrested after fatal shooting during argument

Bowie, MD – A neighborhood dispute in Bowie turned deadly Sunday evening, leaving one man dead and another facing murder charges, according to police.

The Prince George’s County Police Department said officers responded around 6:30 p.m. on September 7 to the 4300 block of Rockport Lane, where they found 59-year-old Benjamin Francis of Lanham suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

Investigators said Francis was shot during an argument with 58-year-old Herbert Keith Mason Jr. of Bowie, who was taken into custody at the scene. Police confirmed the two men knew each other prior to the confrontation.

Mason has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections. Detectives are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Homicide Unit at 301-516-2512.
