D.C. woman wins $250K on Pick 5 after spotting same number twice in everyday life
Baltimore, MD – A Washington, D.C. woman has claimed a $250,000 Pick 5 prize after playing a number combination she says kept appearing in her life—first on a plane, then on a snack bag.
The winning number, 29000, was drawn during the evening Pick 5 drawing on October 15. The winner had placed five $1 straight bets on that number, totaling $250,000 in winnings. She also purchased several 50-cent boxed bets, which she gave away to family and friends.
She purchased all of her tickets at the BP gas station located at 4501 Eastern Avenue in Mount Rainier. The retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
The woman, who works at a daycare center, previously won $80,000 playing the D.C. Lottery and used that prize to remodel her kitchen. This time, she and her husband plan to make a few more upgrades around the house.
She said she doesn’t have plans for a big celebration or vacation, adding that time spent at home with her husband—her childhood sweetheart—is enough.
The Pick 5 game draws daily and allows players to bet in various ways on a five-digit combination for the chance at top prizes of up to $50,000 per $1 straight play.
