Brick, N.J. – Mayor Lisa Crate and the Township Council have distributed more than $43,000 in federal grant funding to a group of local nonprofit organizations that provide food, shelter, care, and community services across Brick Township.
The awards were presented during Monday’s council meeting, with checks ranging from $500 to just over $10,000.
Officials said the funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Services Program.

Federal funding supports local aid network
Each year, Brick Township receives CDBG funds from HUD to address community needs through local service providers. The township selects recipients based on their ability to respond to housing, food, and family support issues within the community. This year’s grants total $43,624 and will help sustain services for seniors, families in crisis, and residents facing housing insecurity.
Mayor Lisa Crate said the program represents a vital partnership between federal resources and community-based action. “Providing these organizations with CDBG funds is truly an honor and a privilege,” Crate said. “Each of these groups works tirelessly to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
Local organizations receive support
Recipients include Community Services, Inc. of Ocean County (Meals on Wheels), Interfaith Hospitality Network of Ocean County, Family Promise of the Jersey Shore, Providence House, The Arc of Ocean County, Church of the Visitation Community Lunch, Brick Morning Rotary Club, Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, Jersey Shore Council Boy Scouts of America, and CONTACT of Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
The funds will help these groups continue programs ranging from meal delivery for seniors to temporary shelter for families and support services for individuals with disabilities.
CDBG program continues long tradition
The Community Development Block Grant program has supported local governments nationwide since 1974, providing funding for housing rehabilitation, public infrastructure, and community services. In Brick Township, the program also helps finance housing and infrastructure improvements in addition to direct grants for nonprofit work.
Residents urged to volunteer and give back
Mayor Crate encouraged residents to get involved with the supported organizations. “The organizations we’re supporting depend heavily on the generosity of volunteers and donors,” she said. “Every contribution helps make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Township officials said they plan to continue working with community partners to identify local needs and ensure that federal funds are directed toward programs that have the greatest impact.
